How the fair works, how to get involved and the different projects at the EMCF

The different projects that exhibitors can participate in:

  • Market Steers
  • Market Swine
  • Market Goats
  • Market Lambs
  • Market Rabbits
  • Poultry – Turkeys
  • Poultry – Broilers

  • Foods
  • Handicraft
  • Horticulture
  • Fine Arts

All livestock, with the exception of the Rabbits are purchased through the Fair Association. The Exhibitor is responsible for paying for their project on the deposit dates. In most cases, animals can be paid for in two deposits.
By purchasing the animal through the Fair Association, the cost of the animal can be controlled. This makes it fair to all the Exhibitor selecting that project verses allowing the Exhibitors to purchased their own. In many cases, the amount that is spent on the animal can give one Exhibitor an advantage over another.
After the deposit date, a date will be set for the Exhibitors to draw numbers for their selection order, with the other Exhibitors that will be raising the same type project.

In most cases, this will be the same day as the selection day, but in some cases, such as with the Market Swine, the date to draw the selection number and the date to select the animal could be a different date (due to the amount of kids that have signed up for that project).

On the selection day, all the animals will arrive, and the Exhibitor (picking in the order of the number they selected) will pick their animal for their project. The Exhibitor will have to pick their animal all by themselves.
At the selection date the animal is nose printed, or tattooed for identification purposes (to insure that the animal taken that day, is the same one that returns to the show).

The rabbits project, is the only project that the livestock is breed, and the young are raised and shown. With the Rabbit project the Exhibitors must own the breed stock, by a certain date and breed the livestock, on a certain date.

Exhibitors must turn in what is known as an intent to show form, and at a certain time, have the rabbits tattooed for identification purposes (to insure that the rabbits they are raising, are the rabbits returned to the show).

Turkeys & Broilers are bought in lots. The Exhibitors will place their orders (number of birds they want) at the deposit date. On the arrival date, it is the responsibility of the Exhibitors to pick up their birds.

Each of the non-livestock projects have dates where entries forms and fees are due and will be listed with the other deposit and selection dates.

Shortly after each Fair, the deposit and selections dates will be decided for the next years fair.

Exhibitors must be in good standing with one of the following clubs in order to participate in the EMCF:

At the date of the Fair, the different projects will be checked in on the appropriate date. The Exhibitors will show their project, again on the appropriate date and the project will be judged. All projects that are placed in the sale will be placed in the Premium Auction with the proceeds from the sale going to the Exhibitor.
